Restaurants in Sofia
13 spots across 3 neighborhoods, curated by locals.
Finding a genuinely good restaurant in Sofia shouldn't mean scrolling past hundreds of tourist menus. We filtered Sofia's dining scene down to 13 restaurants locals actually book — spread across 3 neighborhoods and averaging 4.6★. The filter is deliberate: solid ratings, real review volume, and none of the overexposed spots that survive on foot traffic alone.
Lozenets is the neighborhood to start with — it has the strongest bench of kitchens in this guide. If you only have one evening, Pizza Locale is the safest great choice; book ahead where you can.

Local GuideThe local guide to Sofia
Ah, Sofia! It's this charming mix of ancient and modern. Hit up Alexander Nevsky Cathedral early morning – trust me, the light is magical. Locals do this head-nod thing backwards for "yes" and forwards for "no" which catches tourists off guard! For coffee culture, grab banitsa (cheesy pastry) with boza (fermented drink) for breakfast like locals do. Vitosha Boulevard is great for people-watching, but the real gems are in the side streets. And don't miss Vitosha mountain – locals hop on the lift for quick hikes even after work.
That’s the list. Now take it with you.
